Versailles Swim Team
Coaches Comments
Hello, I'd like to welcome all of you to a very new and exciting time for the Swimming Program here in Versailles. With the starting of the Varsity Swimming Program at the High School level, I think the summer program will be a benefit to the Varsity Program and in return the Varsity program will benefit from the summer program. Because of this I feel a new era is upon swimming here in the Versailles community and the sky is the limit. I am extremely looking forward to the upcoming 2007 summer season.
I'd like to take this time to thank the current and former swimmers of the Versailles Swim Team along with all of the former coaches and current and former board members. If it wasn't for your efforts the Versailles Swimming program wouldn't be were it is today. Also a special thank you to Sue Ahrens for re-laying the foundation of the swim team back in 1993 and helping provide the guidance to build the summer program to approximately 150 swimmers where it is today. This foundation laying and years of dedication and hard work of all involved over the years I feel has led to the school to finally add swimming as a varsity sport.
When I started coaching back in 1993 with Sue Ahrens I never dreamed that 16 years later I would still be coaching. Through the many years of coaching I've experienced many ups and downs, but looking back all of it has been worthwhile and enabled me to grow as a person. There are many memories I've had in coaching the swimmers over the years, which are priceless. As a coach I want the kids to have fun, improve as swimmers, to practice good sportsmanship, and to become better individuals. Also as a coach I take seriously the position I have as a role model and hope that by my actions it will positively affect the lives of my swimmers.
While we do compete in a league and we do have a league Championship meet, the focus of the Tiger Sharks is of a summer recreation league, winning isn't our primary focus, the primary focus is the kids enjoying themselves and improving in their swimming ability. Because of this I feel it lets the summer swim team stay a sport in the truest sense of the word and lets the kids still be kids. The instruction the swimmers will receive during the course of the season will focus on building good stroke fundamentals. This approach has worked very well for the program over the years and formed the strong foundation that our Varsity swim team has been built upon.
